A God, an Old Man and a Blind Man: Suriya Did It All in 2026

Three films. Three releases. Three completely different men. In 2026, Suriya hasn’t just returned to form. He has reminded everyone why he’s one of the boldest actors in Indian cinema.

From Struggle to Golden Run

Not long ago, Suriya was in a rough patch. His films weren’t landing, and fans were starting to worry.

Then came 2026. All three of his releases opened with a positive response, all three worked at the box office, and in each one, he became someone entirely new.

Karuppu: When Suriya Became a God

Playing a god-like character isn’t easy. Get it wrong, and it looks theatrical. Get it right, and audiences can’t take their eyes off you.

In Karuppu, Suriya got it right. He carried the role with a quiet power and a commanding aura that made audiences believe in him. The film went on to cross ₹300 Cr.

Vishwanath and Sons: Ageing Gracefully on Screen

Then, he flipped everything. In Vishwanath and Sons, Suriya played an aged man, and he did it without leaning on just make-up. The slower walk, the softer voice, the tired eyes and the weight of a lifetime all came through in his performance.

From a larger-than-life god to an ordinary ageing father, it was a complete switch. The film collected around ₹250 Cr.

Scene: The Toughest of Them All

Just when it seemed he couldn’t stretch any further, Suriya took on a blind character in Scene.

It may be the hardest role of the three. An actor’s eyes do much of the work, and here Suriya had to perform without them. Every movement, every reaction and every emotion had to be built differently.

Under Jithu Madhavan’s direction, he nailed it, and the film has given him the biggest opening of his career.

One Year, Three Avatars

  • Karuppu: The divine one
  • Vishwanath and Sons: The ageing father
  • Scene: The blind man

The Old Suriya Is Back

This is the Suriya fans fell in love with. The actor who disappeared into Ghajini, transformed for Vaaranam Aayiram, and moved audiences with Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim.

Very few stars would take three such different risks in a single year. Fewer still would win with all three.

In 2026, Suriya did both.
